La Serpiente de Tierra Caliente
How My Son Brought Memories to Many With Canciones Infantiles

This is one of my favorite canciones infantiles, in English it is called "The Hot weather Snake." The funny lyrics make it very appealing to children and unforgettable for many adults that grew up listening to it.

My son loves this song and I sang it to him since he was a baby. One day my son and my husband went to the Colombian bakery in Woodhaven Queens, a heavily Hispanic populated area in NY to bring some goodies to mommy. Well... my son started singing "The Hot Weather Snake" and the owner of the bakery came out and stood alongside the people in the store to listen and enjoy this song.

Many of the customers at the bakery commented ay que lindo, como se sabe las canciones infantiles... The owner was very touched and I guess surprised to see a gringo dad with a toddler who not only spoke but also sang in Spanish, not any song but one of the favorites ones he grew up enjoying. The end result? The owner let my son have his buuelo for free!

We keep going to the same bakery in Woodhaven, needless to say we don't get any more bunuelos for free.

My son keeps singing from time to time and when feels like it. Believe me... people at the bakery still enjoy it!

Lyrics

a comprarse zapatos
en la zapatera.

Pero, ay que pereza
y que amarga sorpresa,
como no tiene patas
nada pudo comprar.
