This Hispanic Immigration Test is one of my favorite ones because it shows how diverse are the Hispanic groups that immigrated to the U.S. This test also shows, in a simplistic way, what were the circumstances that brought them here.

If you have no idea about the different immigrants from Hispanic America, this Hispanic Immigration Test will give you a jump start on your basic knowledge of it. Some patterns emerge; political instability and civil war appear to be main reasons.

What brought Puerto Ricans to the main land during the 1st decade of the 19th century?
A new program by the Puerto Rican government that facilitated the hiring of agricultural and industrial workers from the island in the U.S.

The search for better living conditions after a devastating series of pests in the island that decimated the population.
What facilitated the Mexican immigration in the U.S. from the 1940s to the 1960s?
The Mexican American Labor agreement that allowed the exchange of workers between both governments.
The Bracero program which allowed the U.S. to legally hire Mexican labor from 1942 to 1964.
The unsafe borders by the Rio Grande in the southern border of the U.S. that left the country without protection; therefore allowing Mexican immigrants to come in as they pleased.
What caused the migration of Dominicans to the U.S.?
The bloody civil war in that country that lasted for 20 years and that ended in the 1950s.
Political and economic instability caused by the assassination of dictator Trujillo in 1961.
The Dominican Labor program that allowed the legal hiring of Dominicans from 1960 to 1968.
What main factor contributed to the migration of Colombians to the U.S. during the 1980s?
The special program the U.S. offered to persons affected by the civil war that allowed Colombians to legally relocate in the U.S.
The drug war between the Colombian cartels that prompted many to leave the country.
The Farmers Exchange Program developed between the U.S. and the Colombian government, allowing Colombian farmers to relocate to Montana and California to help farmers.
What was the MAIN reason for Salvadorians, Guatemalans and Nicaraguans to migrate to the U.S.?
Ethnic wars that caused genocides and devastation in the 1970s making inhabitants to flee their countries for the U.S.
The civil wars in their countries of origin that brought them poverty and devastation.
Virus outbreaks that plagued these countries from 1950 to 1962.
