Celebrating "La Navidad" in Our Hispanic-American Home

by Richard
(U.S.)

We have several nativities that we set up- one of which is our "Colombian" nativity. It is more elaborate, and more of a "scene", taking over a good 5 or 6 feet of space. Of course, food is important. Ajiaco on Christmas eve, Tamales and Bunuelos on New Years's eve. These are always made. I try to find other "novel" recipes each year, but these are not always received as well as I'd hope.

I have a collection of music from Colombia- some of which I have digitized, that we play each year.

We used to do presents on Christmas eve, but as the kids have grown, they decided that Christmas morning was more to their liking.

Finally, we call my cousins- most of whom live in southern Florida for a loooonng conference call.

Being a male married to a gringa, it's kinda hard to maintain family traditions- but I try!

Saludos,

We have several Nativities too..
by: Maria Cristina

We celebrate our Latino Christmas at home by putting out several nativities we have acquired through several trips to South America. It is lovely!

They help us remember the places we have been to and enjoy "La Navidad".
